Dermatopathology

The Division of Dermatopathology at PRW offers unparalleled expertise in interpretation of diseases of the skin. Specimens are evaluated by expert well-published physicians who are board certified in Dermatopathology, with additional certification in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology or Dermatology. This blend of clinical and laboratory skills allows for optimal correlation of pathologic and clinical findings.

To assist in the management of difficult cases, our pathologists are available throughout the day for telephone consultation. To increase efficiency—for the physician and the lab—arrangements for specimen pickup, courier services, and the delivery of reports are flexible and can be customized based on the needs of the referring physician.

Gynecological Pathology

PRW Laboratories provides highly recognized expert interpretation and consultation for women with disorders of the female genital tract. Our pathologists have provided consultative services to patients and physicians throughout the US and have participated in clinical trials that have produced many of the current guidelines for diagnosis and clinical practice involving cervical pathology

PRW pathologists are dedicated to providing accurate and timely results, made possible by the using the latest techniques and technology. Correlation of surgical pathology (biopsies of the cervix, vagina, and vulva) and cytological findings with HHPV diagnostics is a routine aspect of our practice. Telephone consultation to discuss interpretations and patient management for clinicians as well as pathologists is encouraged and always available.

Breast Pathology

Timeliness is second only to accuracy when diagnosing breast cancer. To ensure dependable, timely results, our pathologists maintain a close working relationship with our colleagues in radiology, surgery and oncology to optimize accurate and timely diagnosis. Indeed, our pathologists have been involved in local and regional multidisciplinary breast tumor conferences for many years, providing their expertise on the biology of breast disease and mammary neoplasia.

Challenging cases are readily shared in order to bring expert consensus to difficult specimens. State-of-the-art technology is utilized to assess therapeutic and prognostic indicators for mammary tumors.

Orthopedic Pathology

With more than 30 years experience in the pathological diagnosis of bone and soft tissue tumors—in both adult and pediatric populations—our pathologists have provided diagnostic and teaching support for pathologists orthopedic oncologists throughout the nation. We have published expertise in a broad variety of topics in bone and soft tissue pathology. PRW is dedicated to providing prompt reports as well as accurate and comprehensive interpretations.

Hematopathology

PRW pathologists with experience in hematopathology provides diagnostic services to all patients with potential neoplastic diseases of the hematolymphoid system especially lymph nodes. Our pathologists integrate results from the laboratory disciplines of morphologic hematology, flow cytometry, and molecular diagnostics to provide rapid and accurate results to clinicians. Consultations regarding patient management are also readily available.

Genitourinary Pathology

Our pathologists have been actively engaged in the study of genitourinary pathology for almost 30 years, and they have published extensively in that area.  Accordingly, our staff brings a deep reservoir of experience to bear on the interpretation of specimens from the kidneys, prostate, urinary bladder, and accessory genitourinary structures.  Telephone consultations with clinicians regarding patient management are readily available and encouraged.

Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary Pathology

Our pathologists have more than 25 years’ experience in the pathological diagnosis of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases in both adult and pediatric patients.  In addition to conventional histopathological, we also provide ancillary methodologies including the identification of microorganisms and specialized tumor classification.

Members of the PRW staff have specific professional interests in the diagnosis of hepatitis, hepatic neoplasia, inflammatory bowel disease, Barrett’s esophagus, intestinal polyps, and other neoplasms of the gut.

Podiatric Pathology

The study of diseases affecting the foot is a broad discipline, incorporating information from dermatopathology, soft tissue pathology, orthopedic pathology, and general surgical pathology. Our staff offers broad expertise in all of those areas with decades of experience of specifically serving colleagues in podiatry throughout the Midwest and southeast U.S.

Veterinary Pathology

The pathology of animal genera and humans is more similar than different. In recent years, some veterinarians have become engaged in dedicated postgraduate pathology training programs. However, in the past, those were almost entirely lacking. Thus, human pathologists were frequently asked by their veterinary colleagues to assist them in the interpretation of tissue specimens from animals. Several members of our staff have thus acquired a long and broad experience with the evaluation of veterinary diseases.
